How Much Does a Drone Repair Cost in South Africa?

Drone repair workbench at the Omnisky workshop

A crash, a gimbal error or a drone that simply will not connect is stressful. The first question is usually what is this going to cost? Here is how drone repair pricing works at our Randburg workshop, with the typical price bands we see every week.

Typical drone repair prices

Repair type Typical price Typical turnaround
Minor: propellers, arms, shells, small parts, calibration From R850 1–3 days
Moderate: gimbal motors, ribbon cables, sensors, ESC or motor replacement R3,000–R6,000 3–5 days
Major: camera and gimbal assemblies, main boards, water or crash damage From R7,000 7+ days

All prices include VAT. Your exact price is confirmed in a written quote after diagnosis.

What affects the cost?

  • The drone model. Parts for enterprise aircraft such as the Matrice and Mavic 3 Enterprise series cost more than parts for a Mini.
  • Which parts failed. A gimbal camera or main board is the most expensive part of most drones.
  • Hidden damage. A hard crash often damages more than you can see. Diagnosis finds it before it causes another crash.
  • Parts availability. Some parts are imported, which can affect turnaround.

How the repair process works

  1. Book in. Book a repair online, drop your drone off in Randburg, or courier it to us from anywhere in South Africa using our packaging and courier guide.
  2. Diagnosis. A technician inspects the drone and identifies every fault.
  3. Written quote. You receive a quote listing the fault, parts, labour and estimated completion time. Quotes are valid for 14 days.
  4. Your approval. Nothing is repaired until you approve the quote in writing. If we find another fault, we send a revised quote first.
  5. Repair and testing. The drone is repaired, calibrated and tested.
  6. Collection or delivery. Pay and collect, or we courier it back to you.

Is there a diagnostic fee?

Yes, but if you go ahead with the repair it is absorbed into the repair cost. You only pay it separately if you decide not to repair.

Is it worth repairing my drone?

Usually, yes. Most repairs cost far less than a new drone. If a repair would cost more than the drone is worth, or parts are no longer available, we tell you in writing and you decide what happens next. We never dispose of a drone without your written instruction.

Are repairs guaranteed?

Every repair carries a 90-day warranty on labour and parts from the day you collect your drone. See our repair policy for the full terms.

Tips to keep repair costs down

  • Stop flying as soon as you notice a problem. Flying with a damaged propeller or motor often turns a small repair into a big one.
  • Do not open the drone yourself. Tampering can make the repair more expensive.
  • Keep firmware updated and calibrate the compass when DJI Fly asks you to.
  • Carry spare propellers and replace damaged ones straight away.
